CBG Oil Tinctures

CBG Oil tinctures are a popular and easy way to consume CBG for medicinal use. While not as well known as CBD, CBG (Cannabigerol) shows great promise as a medicinal and wellness ingredient.

CBG tincture definition

A CBG tincture is a hemp or cannabis extract, typically containing 2%-10% of cannabinoids in an alcohol or oil base.

CBG Tinctures are typically made from a CBG rich oil, distillate or isolate plus a diluent or carrier oil.

Other solvents/diluents such as vegetable glycerine may also be used.

How to make a CBG Oil Tincture

CBG oil tinctures are normally produced by combining a standardised CBG extract such as Winterised CBG Oil, CBG Distillate or CBG isolate in a carrier oil.

The most commonly used carrier oils are food oils such as hempseed oil. Other diluents such as ethanol, vegetable glycerine, vape juice base etc may also be used.

Carrier oils for CBG Oil Tinctures

Popular carrier oils for CBG Oil tinctures include:

  • Hemp Seed Oil (quickly becoming a leading choice)
  • MCT Oil (MCT is fractionated coconut oil)
  • Olive Oil
  • Grapeseed Oil
  • Sesame Oil

Almost any food grade oil can be used. Oils with mild pleasant flavours are preferred. For commercial production a GMP USP carrier oil is required.

CBG Oil Tincture Flavours

CBG Oil tinctures are often flavoured with peppermint, cinnamon, orange or other flavours to mask the often strong “hemp” flavours which can be too “earthy” or “medicinal” for some patients. Choosing distillate or isolate will reduce the need for flavour masking.

With the trend to High CBG Hemp cultivars with their own unique terpene profile we will see a greater trend toward naturally flavoured hemp CBG Oil tinctures. Hemp seed oil will likely be a popular diluent for these products also.
